Frequently Asked Questions

Are you really going to play games?

YES!!! Nate and Melanie are big fans of fun interactive activitites at social gatherings. Anyone who has been to any other party of theirs can attest to the fact that games are often present. There will be field day type games. There will also be brain challenging table games for rainy weather or for people who don't like to run around (or for people who need a break from running around). If you have a suggestion for a game, please use your RSVP card or email nate+melanie@aardvarque.com to share your ideas.

What if it rains?

We have rented a tent to provide both shade and shelter from the rain, but this is an outdoor, rain or shine event. Consider packing an umbrella or rain coat just in case, and please check the weather the day of the party.

Are you really going to sleep in a tent on your wedding night?

dude and the tentYes! The wedding tent is a Kelty Gunnison 4.  It's a light tent suitable for future hiking or bicycle touring trips, but large enough to comfortably fit 4 Nates, 6 Melanies or about 100 possums.  Here you can see a picture of it set up in our living room.  The tent is being modeled by the extremely talented Matty G, also known as "Dude".  (He's hoping to make it to the Price is Right.)

Why carrot cake?

Both Nate and Melanie are great fans of carrot cake. The combination of moist spicy cake and rich, gooey cream cheese frosting can't be beat!

Where are you registered for gifts?

We do not want anyone to think that gifts are necessary for this party. You're presence at our wedding is all we ask. We do, however, realize that some of you wholeheartedly disagree with us on this topic. Per the requests of you stubborn people out there, we have registered for some gifts. You can view our gift registry at Crate & Barrel and our gift registry at REI.

Why Maine?

Minnesota and Tanzenia were too far away.

What's for dinner?

The menu is classic BBQ fare. Hamburgers, hot dogs, salads, watermelon, etc. Don't forget the carrot cake, and smores!

Can I really wear shorts to your wedding?

Yes! Nate and Melanie want everyone to dress so that they are happy and comfortable. If that means wearing a tutu and a tiara, by all means wear a tutu and a tiara! If that means wearing shorts, please feel free. Comfortable cloths are encouraged, especially for the game portion of the event. Keep in mind that we will be walking to the top of the hill on the farm for the wedding ceremony, so stilletos may be tricky.

What is Nate going to wear?

Nate is having trouble deciding between the legendary Asparagus costume, a very nice suit, or something more casual. Please feel free to email your suggestions to nate+melanie@aardvarque.com. Pictures of your suggestions are encouraged.

Have you gotten a photographer yet?

The wedding committee has decided against hiring a professional photographer, but if you want to bring your own camera, you are more than welcome to do so.  (With any luck, we'll have a computer set up on site for digital photo uploading.)  There will be a few disposable cameras around for people to have fun with, too.

Anyone who would like a picture with the bride and groom are welcome to ask. Please be aware that a minimum of 2 pictures will be taken, one with silly fish faces and one with the tone of your choice.

Will there be moose?
A møøse ønce bit my sister... Nø realli! She was Karving her intials øn the møøse with the sharpened end øf an interspace tøøthbrush given her by Svenge - her brøther-in- law- an Øslø dentist star of many Nørwegian møvies: "The Høt Hands øf an Øslø Dentist", "Fillings øf Passiøn", "The Huge Mølared Nørdfink".

What is an aardvarque?

An aardvarque is a more sophisticated member of the aardvark family. Rather than having a solitary life living in a dark burrow on a diet of termites, the aardvarque enjoys eating spicy dishes, chocolatey desserts and wearing especially brightly colored sneakers. Though the aardvark is nocturnal and rather cautious about leaving it's home, the aardvarque is often found skipping through the savanna's and rain forests of Africa while quoting silly movies.
