Nate and Pop Setting out

Nate, Jen, and I took a jaunt up to Maine for a long weekend or "mini-break" the weekend of 9/12!  The weather was a bit cool and windy.   Saturday was rainy and blustery.  A good day for baking Jen a chocolate birthday cake with a moose / commuter bag cake topper.

Sunday was sunny and breezy.  It was a perfect day for sailing if you are adventurous and not afraid of September, Maine waters.  While admittedly the cove is usually warmer than the bay and open ocean, only the braves were willing to venture out.  Jen, Phoebe, Julie and I were willing to watch, but only Bessie, Bill (aka Pop), and Nate were willing to be the seafaring type.

Bill and Nate kept trying to persuade us otherwise by talking about how one generally doesn't tip over or get wet if you know what your doing.  We trekked out at high tide to the cove and proceeded to set the sailfish up.  It needed some new rope, but nothing our gang of pirates and some Duct tape couldn't handle!!!

Capn' Bill took the first cruise out onto the cove, while the rest of us looked on.  He made it look incredibly easy in spite of the gusty winds.  He cruised back to shore and handed the boat over to Nate.  While we watched Nate from shore we discussed how surprisingly unwet everyone was so far.  Alas, we had spoken too soon.  As Nate attempted to corner his trusty Sailfish, he lost control due to the fickle wind, and gave out a glorious splash!!!  It fortunately only took him a few moments to right himself and feel the wind in his now sopping wet hair, helping to dry his dripping face.

Once back on land, Nate admirably regained his land legs and started to chase the fearful and dry that had watched from solid ground.  Soon after, Bessie and Pop headed back out for a wild ride, and another dip in the cove.  The afternoon was finished by the two gents cavorting through out the cove with multiple dips back into the supposedly "warm" water.  It's still unclear if this is fact or bravado.  Regardless, a good time was had by both sports-people and spectators alike.

Raising the sail! Bessie and Pop Heading out Ahoy Capn' Bill! Soggy Nate Monster Bessie and Pop sailing the choppy seas!

(P & J are clearly riveted by the adventures on the high seas before them.)
